Classes & Workshops
Shirley will be teaching classes on a weekly basis at the Art Center in Bonita Springs, FL. Her next two courses at the Art Center are a five week class titled "Paintings-Acrylics" starting Feb. 20 through March 24, 2012 and running again April 2 through May 5, 2012. Shirley will be teaching 3, 4 and 5 day abstract workshops in the following places:
-Marco Island Center for the Arts - Marco Island, Florida - February 16, 17 and 18, 2012
Join Shirley for an Abstract Workshop starting on February 15, 2012. Students will do exercises in order to develop a composition. Then they will go to their painting surfaces. There will be demonstrations and daily critiques. Students can expect to have completed paintings in abstract and to learn approaches and techniques in abstract. Shirley will be teaching the course titled "All About Abstract" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Demonstrations will be done in Acrylics but students may paint in Watercolor, Oil or Acrylic. Shirley will be leading a four day workshop titled "Abstract Composition & Techniques." All media and all levels of experience are welcome. Learn to do abstract paintings in a supportive environment. There will be guided exercises in composition and design using tested methods. Techniques and textures with your painting will help achieve the "WOW' factor. Critique is a part of each class. Join us for four busy and fun filled days of "All About Abstract" classes. There are no boundaries, rules, or "no no's" in this adventure which will stretch your creative mind and focus in on your style of painting. Each day there will be a new abstract lesson for you to incorporate into your work. The principles and elements of design will help as you experience the exercises of the daily lessons. We will discuss styles of painting, your thought processes while painting, and steps to complete your pieces. Class comments and critiques are a daily part of class. All media are welcome. Oil painters need to use odorless solvents. Past expereince is helpful but not a must. An open, experimental, and "anything goes" attitude is most helpful!
